Check the Consistency
There are different forms of moisturizers such as creams, lotions, and thick ointments. If your skin is very dry and patchy, you need to lock the moisture into it, and ointments with heavy consistency get the job done well. However, make sure that the moisturizer is non- comedogenic and does not clog the pores.
If your skin is normal, a creamy formula will suit your skin the best. Those with oily skin must go for lotions or gel formula that is thin and feels very light on the skin. No matter what your skin type is, remember that skipping a moisturizer is no option.
SPF or No SPF
You can always get a separate sunscreen for protection from the sun rays. However, it is recommended that you buy a moisturizer that does have SPF 30 or more. Plus, make sure that your moisturizer does not contain any fragrance or grease if you are using it on your face.
Look for Antioxidants
High-quality moisturizers usually have antioxidants like pomegranate, chamomile and green tea extract. These antioxidants maintain the health and glow of the skin and also help in rejuvenating the skin cells. Therefore, I would suggest you look for them if you want more than just a moisturizer that keeps the skin moisturized.
Consider Your Skin Type
Every skin type demands a little difference in the product. If your skin is oily and acne prone, I would suggest you find a moisturizer that has Alpha-hydroxy acids in it and is non-comedogenic. Plus, if your skin is sensitive, go for completely vegan and organic product that contains no dyes, artificial scent or irritants.
Also, look for a moisturizer that is hypoallergenic if your skin is easily irritated. Hyaluronic acid is a very nice ingredient that is naturally present in our skin and is, therefore, safe for all skin types. Make sure your moisturizer has got it. Water-based moisturizers are great for normal and oily skin.
If your skin is very dry or sensitive, it is better that you avoid product with a lot of acids and irritants in it, especially alcohol. Too many acids can make your skin look dull and take its shine away. Also, avoid artificial scents, dyes, and colors.
The lesser the ingredients your moisturizer is made of, the better it is for the health of your skin. Look for natural ingredients that do not strip off the layer of natural oils from the skin. Plus, if you need extra pampering, you can look for anti-aging ingredients that help replenish the skin cells and can be used as night mask as well.
